Week of 1 April

  • A quiet one this week!
  • Another four day work week (which felt like home), was incredibly rewarding.
  • I've been working my way through more of the Playstation's free games catalogue. This time trying out Tales of Arise. Earlier in the week, I was watching a review for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and after bouncing off of Remake, I really wanted to take a swing a Rebirth. I bounced off of Remake because I spent way too much time in the early stages of the game trying to do all the side quests in the slums and found it incredibly boring. And this is how Tales of Arise felt β€” the combat was super interesting, but it felt pretty samey several hours in. So that one got put on the maybe-later pile, and I'm back on the Remake bandwagon. After starting the story again (for the 3rd time), I beelined it the hell out of the slums, and I'm all in on this game now! The characters are amazing, the combat is so much fun, and the set pieces are just stunning. So this should keep me occupied for the next several months, at least until the price of Rebirth drops to something that's not > $120AUD.
  • I read a super interesting article this week about the name "Daniel" potentially being the oldest attested name in common use. And much like the The Tale of Tiffany, the trail goes dark for a couple hundred years, but in the case of "Daniel", can be picked up a bit more easily. Super interesting read, even if your name isn't Daniel.
  • We've been re-watching one of our favourite series' the last few weeks β€”Β Still Game. A Scottish comedy, set in the fictional town of Craiglang, and follows the lives of a group of pensioners (all played by people in their 40s, dressed in prosthetics and wigs). The Scottish-isms and general banter are just a really fun time to watch, but there is an underlying sense of camaraderie and mate-ship that really sets the show apart when compared with other shows of its ilk. 10/10, would re-re-re-re-watch.
