Week 34 — Ooo shiny

  • Happy new iPhone and new iOS week to all who observe! I have been holding off upgrading my phone for a few years now. I picked up a 12 mini at the height of the pandemic (when going too far from a charger was not all that frequent) and have been quietly hoping for a refresh of the mini line since. The "mini" size is just perfect for doing almost anything one handed. But it also made typing a tad awkward with two hands. The keys were just a touch too small to type on with two thumbs. Last month, we took a trip to NZ and the tiny-phone battery really took its toll in that I could barely make it through the morning without the phone ending up in low-power mode. So, this year, I picked up a 15 Pro (mainly for the camera and action button) and this thing is just amazing!! ProMotion makes everything look so smooth, and (for now) the always on display is pretty nice! I've mapped the action button to a shortcut that I run every morning when I leave the house, so here's hoping for a smoother exit each day instead of faffing about with my watch as I step out the door.
  • iOS17 has also been a hit in our house, with approx. 1,451,552,727 stickers of our dogs shared and created in the last few days.
  • The next few weeks are both the ending and beginning of Q3 and Q4, but they are also both short weeks. With footy day in Victoria, and Labour Day in the ACT, so yay for long week ends, but boo for catching up on all the work.
  • Barkly and I had a couple more trips to the best this week. First on Saturday last week when I mis-remembered an appointment and second on Monday, when the appointment actually was. When we got there, however, they were out of the vaccine he was actually booked in for. The vet was incredibly apologetic, and suggested we book in at the end of the year instead. He gave Barkly a handful of treats and sent us on our way — so I guess it's kinda nice for Barkly to go for a NOOP visit so the place doesn't seem all that scary.
