Week 74 — Loud noises

  • This was an odd week. I was one of a few responders on an incident early in the week. We were first raised at ~10pm AEST, and were able to resolve things by about 12pm. Which wasn't terrible — we got to go back to bed at a reasonable hour and rest up for the next day. At 3am, however, we received another page from another one of our data centres. This time, it took us until ~7am to resolve things. This meant we were still online from the night before as some people were starting to come online. My brain was, unfortunately, toast after that evening, so I took the morning to sleep. I got back to work at around noon to knock off a couple of low-hanging tasks and then clock off again. The weirdest part was that I felt like I had lost a day all week. When I was gearing up for Wednesday, it was actually Thursday — which was a nice surprise, save for the price of entry 😆.
  • We attended one of our friend's wedding this weekend. They were part of Abby's grad program when we moved up to Canberra almost 10 years ago. This of course meant that a bunch of other folks from the program were invited. We had been keeping in touch over the years, but never all together so it was cool to see folks all in the same room again! Of the ~20 people that started, around ~5-10 are still in Canberra, with others moving back to Melbourne / Sydney or heading overseas — a reunion is definitely on the cards once things get warmer here.
  • I've been working a bit more on reprint.computer this week. I've been trying to work through a bunch of different use cases so that I can document them and eventually turn them in to a recipe for new folks coming on board. Things I am thinking of are in the flavour of "build a summary newsletter of an RSS feed you're a fan of", "keep a journal of movies watched in a month".
  • I've been playing YOYOZO on the playdate this week. The game is super fun (and clocks in at only 39KB). The author wrote up their approach to building the game as well as how the game can be so tiny.
