Week 72 — 33rd Olympiad

  • Such a cold week — it's gotta be snowing somewhere nearby. Most mornings this week had a pretty heavy fog, which made for a pretty moody and interesting dog walk :)

A foggy morning view. A concrete path stretches in to the distance in the left 1/3 of the image. The right 2/3 is mostly lawn.

  • We've been watching the Olympics this weekend. Mainly keeping an eye on the hockey (and flipping between a couple of other interesting sports). I love the way that the hockey is televised during the Olympics. Usually one or two commentators, no talking-head-analysis, just a play-by-play with 0 stoppages for adverts, 0 post-game interviews. It's a bummer we don't get to see sport like this year round, it's so much more chill and easy to watch.
  • The cold hasn't stopped us from firing up the pizza oven. We've been trying dough made in the bread maker. It's super quick to make, but a little more temperamental than dough made by hand (much easier to overproof by accident). I tried a 1hr fermentation last weekend, and a 4hr this weekend. The 1hr provided a much better dough that we could roll out super thin — which is fortunate for a last minute pizza night!
  • I've been playing more Diablo IV this week — I am still stunned by how well it runs on an M3 Max. At one point, I was building something with Docker, and the fans didn't even spin up. Such an incredible machine. I don't know what my long-term goal is in Diablo — I am not a fan of rolling a new character every season (usually because it takes me the whole season to reach level 50 and start getting in to the late game systems). I am thinking just get a character to 100 and see what happens after that.
  • We've also been playing some cardboard Magic in the evenings as a means of winding down without looking at a screen — it's been really nice (minus the many rules lookups, but we'll learn those eventually 😆).
  • I've also put some of the final pieces together for reprint.computer. There were some half-written docs, and some features that could have used a bit more spit-shine. I'm super happy with how it's turned out in just a couple of months! Next steps are to keep using it for myself (adding in some of the extra use-cases I was hoping to use it for), and then to start to publicise it!
