Week 80 — A bye election 👋

  • Crumpet had a bit of an on-and-off sore tummy this week. I suspect it was because she managed to scoff a bit of chicken that I dropped while eating early in the week that was quite fatty. Nothing too serious, but always a scare with her when her tummy plays up, as trying to throw up is usually what precedes a seizure with her :(
  • Speaking of foods, we started Sebastian on solids over the last few weeks. It’s pretty cool seeing his face react to different tastes and textures. He loves to mush the food around in his mouth and then immediately lean forward for more. Cutest thing in the world.
  • Election week this week in Australia and hoo-boy what a night it was! Abby and I went in thinking maybe a close call, could go either way. Either more of what we have now (Albo as PM and Dutton in opposition), or the opposite. Either way, potentially a late night ahead! Didn’t even cross our minds that Dutton would be out a seat, and that it’d all be over practically as soon as polling had closed. While neither major party is perfect (only so much you can do in a 3 year term, always a bias to do things that will guarantee re-election etc etc), it was heartening to see this little country send a big “no thank you” when offered plays out of America’s current playbook.
  • One of my love-hate purchases over the last few years has been our electric mower. I love that I don’t have to fill it with petrol, but can’t stand how terribly the battery ages. The first few months of a new battery will have it holding enough charge to cut the lawn at the back and front of our place (a few hundred square meters). Now, it’s barely holding enough charge to do half the work. So I have this wonky looking lawn for — ideally a few hours while the batter charges, but let’s be real it’s more like a week when I finally get back to it. The first-worldiest of first-world problems, though.
