Week 103 — knitting, gardening, music, 'n' more

  • Our final long weekend of the year made this week a short week, but a packed and delightful weekend.

  • On Tuesday Clare and I went and saw a film as part of the Italian Film Festival at Palace Electric "Life is Life". A film about a big business trying to relocate a man from his generational home in Sardinia. It was fun to be able to recognise a handful of words and 1 or 2 phrases! Though, part way through, I definitely found myself questioning my beliefs as I was siding with the big business for bringing jobs to an otherwise struggling village. But quickly snapped out of that! 4/5 was a great film, amazing location, some good laughs and a heartwarming story.

  • On Saturday it was bucketing down with rain — to the point where it was hard to hear anything in the car. Sebby and I did our shop at the Westfield this week to avoid the run between the carpark and our usual shops. We've been doing some toilet training and after a brief stop for a baby chino, Sebby asked to go to the toilet — which was so so good! Thankfully the parents room at the Westfield is pretty amazing. So we had a quick stop to stare at Bluey on the way out :)

  • In the afternoon we went and visited Clare. Sebby bolted straight in the door and immediately said hi to Sugar — laying on the ground and staring into her eyes 😻. Then we spent the afternoon playing, gardening, putting up the Christmas tree (yay!), and then having dinner together 🥰 After dinner we watched more of the storm roll past (complete with thunder and lightning!). It was such a lovely way to spend the afternoon and evening together ❤️. After our bath I was putting Sebby to bed and he kept asking for more lightning — explaining why there was no more lightning was how he drifted off for the night.

  • On Sunday afternoon Clare, one of Clare's friends and I went to a Crafty Cinema screening of Miss Congeniality. I must have seen that movie a heap of times growing up, but completely forgot the weird undertones of sexism and homophobia — or wasn't as aware of them. Was still a fun movie, and a fun time sitting in a room full of crafters all working on something together! I made a bunch of progress on my beanie — though Clare unfortunately found a tangle in her yarn so spent the majority of the time working through that!

  • Later that afternoon, we want to Ming's for dinner and then off to NightFest to watch The Temper Trap! It was such a lovely evening! The weather was perfect, the vibes were prefect, and the music was perfect! It was so nice seeing some live music after a long time and dancing to some upbeat tunes! I was saying to Clare shortly after, that I hadn't listened to The Temper Trap intentionally for years! Not since Thicker than Thieves came out — but for some reason got back on to them a few weeks ago after their new album came out and had been listening to a bunch of their old stuff on repeat. Was a total surprise that they were playing NightFest, so pretty stoked we could get out to see them 🥰

  • Monday was a public holiday, for Labour, or something. So we did 0 Labour, in honour. We started the day with a coffee and breakfast at Eddie's Organics — a really cute and perfectly styled cafe in Pearce. The food, coffee and playlist were also incredible. We did a bit of knitting while finishing our breakfast, and then took off to the NLA.

  • It was still pretty gloomy after the storms over the weekend, so we had to stick to indoorsy things. Checking out the museum and bookshop at the NLA, and a quick knitting break before walking down to OPH to see the Wisteria that has come out in an amazing bloom!

  • Then some more knitting at home, where I managed to finish my beanie (and will post separately about that!) But I am so happy to have finished it and so proud that I managed to get through a whole first project — and incredibly grateful for Clare's guidance, teachings and encouragement to finish it!

I have since blocked it and the form is much more like a beanie!
